What is Christian counseling?
Christian counseling begins with the assumption that a Christian worldview provides the best understanding of the human personality. We are created to be in relationship with God and one another, but because of the brokenness of our world, our frustrated longing for relationship often results in various problems. In this sense, psychological problems – like all problems in our world – ultimately stem from our human brokenness. Christian counseling operates from the belief that God can help heal the brokenness we experience personally and relationally. However, we cannot settle for simplistic connections between personal choices and psychological symptoms. Many aspects of our fallen world contribute to psychological problems, including historical, cultural, biological, psychosocial, personal and emotional factors. Counseling clients do not have to share this perspective or belief in order to receive services. Please discuss with your counselor any questions or concerns you have about this worldview.
